This painting drew inspiration from a friend of Betha Bach undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. The woman's hair loss serves as a poignant metaphor for the turbulent waves beneath her boat, symbolizing the emotional turmoil accompanying the abrupt loss of external beauty due to rigorous medical treatments. The storm depicted in the background represents the uncertainty of the future and the physical challenges associated with chemotherapy. Despite these adversities, the woman is serenely depicted resting in the boat, enveloped by a comforter (blanket) symbolizing the presence of the Holy Spirit. The mast at the boat's center, representing the Holy Spirit facilitated by Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, conveys a sense of divine protection. Furthermore, the three oars symbolize the guiding and strengthening influence of the Trinity. This portrayal of peace aligns with the narrative found in Luke 8:23-25.
