EVE DECEIVED
This wonderful work captures a moment in time during the fall of Adam
and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Eve, having been deceived by the
serpent, chose to disobey God's one commandment He had given Adam.
“But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat,
for in the day that you eat of it you shall surly die” The moment
that is captured here is a short time after the eating of the fruit
but before Adam and Eve are confronted by God about their offense.
Notice, the tinge of guilt starting to form on her face. The tree is
to her back and her hand covers the sight of the fruit as she
attempts to hide what she has done. The ominous, small owl
represents the knowledge she now has of what is like to do wrong. It
is the beginning of the death of the fellowship she had experienced
with a perfect God. Coffee, always meaning revelation and spiritual
strength, is represented in a cold, probably empty pot, below her
field of vision.
