INNER MAN
Ephesians 6:12 says, “We wrestle not with flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
This painting portrays a battle that symbolizes the vulnerability of the human trinity - spirit, soul, and body - to malevolent forces. The soul, encompassing the mind, will, and emotions, requires protection. In this depiction, the unguarded gates to the man's soul, represented by the eye gates, ear gates, and spoken words, render him susceptible. The surrounding webs illustrate how once admitted, these influences are ensnared and retained, as what is perceived, heard, or spoken cannot be undone. The various creatures in the artwork symbolize unclean spirits that target individuals created in the image of God. The wolf and fox embody deceptive leaders and teachers propagating false doctrines, while the frog represents seemingly harmless yet spiritually perilous witchcraft. The mental struggle depicted is mirrored by vultures perched on barren trees, symbolizing the destruction awaiting the defeated. However, there remains hope, a space within his heart for the One capable of restoring all things and illuminating with His radiance.
