Mental Jewelry

Mental jewelry exposes the lies and deception that are influencing our society, one individual at a time. It was inspired by a song performed by Josh Garrels entitled "Freedom." The song has the following lyrics:

"We shine like lights, exposing what lies underneath, decomposing."
Unearth those chains that are rusted.
Oh my God, is that what I trusted in? That sin? That tomfoolery?
Ugh!   What it is is mental jewelry that I adorned myself with:
"The enemy's gifts, the man-made myths, the ignorant bliss of marijuana spliffs and alcoholic fifths—I got so sick and tired of it."

Although the song was written before the social media boom, the painting incorporates all of the colors and some symbols of the major social media platforms within the dress and adornment of the woman in the painting. One of the platforms holds the woman in bondage with rusty chains and a heavy burden on her back. She is unaware of the death, destruction, and infestation taking place in the spirit behind her. The white hydrangea flower symbolizes a false belief system of purity and grace. The yellow daffodil behind her depicts narcissism, which is another name for this flower. The undersized, lowered umbrella is a representation of a lack of spiritual covering in her life.

The woman herself is what was known as a "geisha." The Geisha woman in this painting represents the facade of perfectionism, as they were known for their talents as professional entertainers. They were everything a man would fantasize that a woman should be in terms of beauty and talent. This also reflects in our society today in the metaverse, in who we label as social media influencers or trendsetters, creating a false, vain exterior and reality. For most of us, we allow ourselves to be impacted by all of these futile standards. We have devoted our time and energy to a false identity, putting aside our demise resulting from this destructive mindset, and forgetting who God made us to be.

Ecclesiastes 1:2 Amplified Bible: “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher.“Vanity of vanities! All [that is done without God’s guidance] is vanity [futile, meaningless—a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes, merely chasing the wind].”
