"Mending and Binding"
In this deeply moving painting, a woman’s hand reaches out, offering her broken heart to Jesus Christ. The heart, shattered and wounded, carries the marks of pain and sorrow, yet in the hands of the Savior, it is being lovingly restored. His touch mends the fractures with the golden seams of kintsugi, the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, transforming what was once broken into something more beautiful and valuable.
Kintsugi is more than just a technique—it is a profound philosophy. Instead of hiding the cracks, it highlights them, honoring the history of the broken vessel and embracing its scars as part of its beauty. In the same way, Jesus does not erase our past wounds but redeems them, making them part of a greater testimony. The heart in this painting reflects God’s healing touch, where pain is not discarded but transformed into something glorious.
One of the wounds takes the shape of the cross—a powerful symbol of Christ’s own sacrifice, the One who was broken for us so that we might be healed. His wounds bring our healing, fulfilling the eternal promise: “By His wounds, we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). The golden seams running through the heart are not just lines of repair; they are declarations of redemption, proof that what was once shattered can be restored to something even stronger, more radiant, more whole.
A radiant light flares around the mended heart, shimmering with speckled gold, representing the glory of God surrounding His beloved in the fullness of His love and healing power. The golden glow embodies the presence of Jehovah Rapha—the Lord who heals—who takes our brokenness and covers it with His glory.
This painting is more than an image; it is an invitation. It calls the viewer to surrender their own brokenness into the hands of Christ, trusting that He does not discard what is wounded, but binds up the brokenhearted and restores what seemed lost (Psalm 147:3). Just as the light in the painting radiates from the mended heart, so does God’s healing presence shine through the very wounds He restores. What was once shattered is now a testimony of grace, a masterpiece of redemption in the hands of the Healer.
